Golden-Globe-Regen für “The Social Network”

Gleich vier, darunter die wichtigsten Golden Globes, kassierte der kritische “Facebook”-Film “The Social Network” von Kunst-Regisseur David Fincher: Bester Film, Beste Regie, Bestes Drehbuch (Aaron Sorkin) und Bester Original Score (von Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). Natalie Portman wurde als beste Hauptdarstellerin in “Black Swan” mit dem Golden Globe belohnt, bester Hauptdarsteller wurde Colin Firth (The King’s Speech).

Den Preis für das Lebenswerk erhielt Robert de Niro. Als beste TV-Serie wurde “Boardwalk Empire” (und dessen Hauptdarsteller Steve Buscemi) ausgezeichnet. Die Golden Globes werden alljährlich vom Verein der Auslandspresse in Hollywood (HFPA) an Kino- und TV-Stars vergeben und sind traditionell ein Gradmesser für die Oscar-Verleihungen.

Woche der Filmmusik: Kritik: “Hollywood in Vienna”

Mitte September Stand Wien ganz im Zeichen Hollywoods – über die “Woche der Filmmusik in Wien” wurde hierorts ja schon berichtet. Den Abschluss bildete der zum dritten Mal stattfindende “Hollywood in Vienna” Abend im Wiener Konzerthaus. Filmmusikkompositionen der “klassischen” Musik gleichberechtigt akzeptiert zu sehen, galt über viele Jahre ja als schweres Unterfangen, zu festgefahren war die gesellschaftlich akzeptierte Ansicht, dieses Prädikat nur der “ernsten” Musik zuzugestehen.

Dabei sind -historisch betrachtet- gerade Wien und seine angrenzenden Städte der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie die Wiege der symphonischen Filmmusik: Erich Wolfgang Korngold aus Brno/Brünn, Miklós Rózsa aus Budapest und schliesslich Max Steiner aus Wien eroberten mit ihren Filmkompositionen die goldene Ära Hollywoods, inspirieren mit ihren Inszenierungen fast alle heute tätigen Filmmusikkomponisten.

So bildeten “The Sea Hawk” (Korngold) und “Ben Hur” (Rózsa) dann auch den Auftakt, ehe das Programm mit “The Rocketeer” (James Horner) in die Neuzeit schwenkte und sich mit “Indiana Jones” und “Jurassic Park” (John Williams) auf schon Vielgehörtes fokussierte. Und das ist vielleicht ein Umstand, der – trotz aller Perfektion des ORF Radio Symphonie Orchesters Wien unter Dirigent John Axelrod – aus der Sicht des Cineasten kritisch hinterfragt werden könnte:

Warum nur Populäres, wieso nichts Neues? Gerade John Williams Repetoire ans Filmmusik ist breit gefächert, warum nichts aus “Minority Report”, “Amistad” oder “Empire of the Sun” (“Im Reich der Sonne”). Auch ein Auszug aus James Horners “Avatar” konnte im Anschluss nur mässig überzeugen, ob dieser Film und seine Musik das Potential zum Klassiker hat, wird erst die Zeit weisen. Die Welturaufführung von Klaus Badelts “Pirates of the Caribbean” Suite (“Fluch der Karibik”) setzte des Schlusspunkt des ersten Teils und überzeugte nicht nur druck- und schwungvoll inszeniert, sondern auch mit teils zum ersten Mal gehörten Variationen des Grundthemas: Von Klaus Badelt darf in den nächsten Jahren gewiss noch viel erwartet werden.

Der zweite Teil des Abends war Howard Shore gewidmet, dessen musikalisches Schaffen sich über unterschiedliche Genres und Regiesseuren wie David Cronenberg “The Fly” (“Die Fliege”), Jonathan Demme “Silence Of The Lambs” (“Das Schweigen der Lämmer”) über David Fincher (“The Game”) erstreckte, ehe er mit der Filmmusik zu Peter Jacksons “The Lord on the Rings” Trilogie (“Der Herr der Ringe”) jene Popularität und jene Wertschätzung zuteil wurde, die er schon früher verdient hätte. Ein Querschnitt seines musikalischen Schaffens wurde in Form eines Medleys präsentiert, gefolgt von der “Lord of the Rings – Grand Suite” (wie bei Fluch der Karibik ebenfalls eine Welturaufführung) ehe der 1946 in Toronto geborene Komponist mit dem “Max Steiner Award” geehrt wurde. Seinen Score zu “Lord of the Rings” dirigierte Howard zum Abschluss schliesslich selbst und bewies auch hier sein Können.

Zusammenfassend ein sehr gelungener Abend, welcher nicht zuletzt dank der äusserst positiven Publikumsresonanz auch im nächsten Jahr stattfinden dürfte. Und nachdem John Williams Kompositionen schon bei den vergangenen “Hollywood in Vienna” Konzerten vertreten waren, wäre er sicher ein möglicher würdiger Kandidat für den nächsten “Max Steiner Award”.
