In dieser Nacht wurden die 83. Academy Awards, die Oscar-Verleihungen 2011 vergeben. “Der große Sieger des Abends ist “The King’s Speech” von Tom Hooper: er gewinnt vier entscheidende Oscars: “Bester Film”, “Beste Regie”, “Bestes Original Drehbuch” und “Bester Hauptdarsteller”: Colin Firth. “Inception” erhielt ebenfalls vier Oscars, “The Social Network” drei und “Toy Story 3″, “Alice in Wonderland” sowie “The Fighter” jeweils zwei. Als beste Schauspielerin wurde Natalie Portman für ihre Rolle in “Black Swan” ausgezeichnet, die Preise als beste Nebendarsteller gingen an Christian Bale und Melissa Theo.

Die Ehrenoscars 2011, die bereits am 13. November 2010 in Los Angeles in Abwesenheit von Jean-Luc Godard verliehen wurden, gehen an Jean-Luc Godard (Regisseur), Eli Wallach (Schauspieler) und Kevin Brownlow (Filmhistoriker). Bei der Gala aus Hollywood überraschte der Auftritt des 95-Jährigen Kirk Douglas.

Gleich vier, darunter die wichtigsten Golden Globes, kassierte der kritische “Facebook”-Film “The Social Network” von Kunst-Regisseur David Fincher: Bester Film, Beste Regie, Bestes Drehbuch (Aaron Sorkin) und Bester Original Score (von Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). Natalie Portman wurde als beste Hauptdarstellerin in “Black Swan” mit dem Golden Globe belohnt, bester Hauptdarsteller wurde Colin Firth (The King’s Speech).

Den Preis für das Lebenswerk erhielt Robert de Niro. Als beste TV-Serie wurde “Boardwalk Empire” (und dessen Hauptdarsteller Steve Buscemi) ausgezeichnet. Die Golden Globes werden alljährlich vom Verein der Auslandspresse in Hollywood (HFPA) an Kino- und TV-Stars vergeben und sind traditionell ein Gradmesser für die Oscar-Verleihungen.
